This blog is moving! 12/15/2011

I've made a few changes and decided to keep this blog active for announcements for my annual anthology project, now dubbed soul vomit.

If you want to continue following my author blog, please go to my new official author web site: Jennifer-Crystal Johnson.

For my Goodreads followers out there - I'm debating whether I should keep this blog up on my author profile or move that to accommodate my author blog. I'm probably going to switch it, but for the time being, I'm leaving this announcement up for a couple of weeks.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Book Review by Midwest Book Review, December 2011: 12/12/2011

_With satisfaction in life comes looking back at how you got there. "Napkin Poetry" is a collection of poetry from Jennifer-Crystal Johnson as she reflects on the happiness she has found and what she has, and the world it means to her. Dedicated and devotional, "Napkin Poetry" is a worthy collection for the words of a mother, wife, and woman of the world. "Yin & Yang": We are a myriad of thoughts/In a kaleidoscope of dreams/And everything seems real/But nothing's what it seems//The evil that we do/Is for the good of all we know/And when there's no evil left/Then there's nowhere left to go.

Writing exercise #1: The Sound of Insanity 11/15/2011
0 Comments

Alright. So I figured I should try my hand at coming up with writing exercises for the sake of practicing as well as for the sake of getting more inventive.

I was driving down the road the other day and heard a snippet of a song I love, reminding me of how wrong I was about the lyrics at first. This got me to thinking, and my mind wandered off on a pretty crazy tangent, but I came up with this writing exercise:

What would insanity sound like? Imagine yourself in a not-right state of mind, and think of the sounds you would notice the most in your everyday environment. Would they annoy you? Would they soothe you? Try to imagine what craziness would go through your head if you were insane and hearing everything from that perspective.

Not a winner... but a finalist! 11/09/2011
0 Comments

I entered my short story, Shrapnel, in a contest over the summer with In The Snake magazine, and got the results back just yesterday. Though I didn't place, my story was a finalist and that makes me feel good!

To see a list of all the finalists, you can check out their official announcement. I have a lot of other plans for exposure - including more giveaways on Goodreads - and hopefully I'll be able to get some more people introduced to my work.

Remember, if you like it, then please share! My next book will be an actual fictional novel - so the poetry will be on hold for a little while. In the meantime... I've got some homework to finish for class!

After some random delays and battling the procrastination demons, my new book is finally available! I know, I know... it's a month later than I promised. But that's what happens when you have 3 kids and decide to go back to college. Plus, we all know how easily distracted I get... I started this blog entry about 20 minutes ago while doing 2 other things and sending out my newsletters, so is it any surprise that I'm a space case?

Speaking of which... if you're interested in getting announcements, special offers, and other exclusives, you should sign up for my newsletter on the home page =).
